It seems like bikes have been around forever. They really have been around along time, though. Many people have been riding bikes since they first came out. Although, they were much different they still had a similar concept. Bikes have been very popular throughout time.
The first bike was invented in 1817. It was called the Velocipede. It did not have pedals and it had two wheels. It was made for riding through royal gardens without knocking down plants and damaging them. Not only were these bikes useful, they were also fun to ride.
Then three and four wheelers were invented, in the 1850's. As time passed new bikes were invented. Like, the High Wheel bicycle in the 1870's. and then around the early 1900's the modern bicyle we have to day was invented. Obviously it was as good as our bikes today, but it had the same concept. Back then bikes became considered as childrens' toys, but in the 1970's bikes became very popular among adults in America.
